The Plains of the Butchered Dead: A Shadowdark Zine

You have died.

Horribly or peacefully you know not which. Only bits and pieces of the world appear in your memory, but faces are a blur. Names gone and erased from all you knew, including yourself. Unfortunately you have no time to contemplate these mysteries as you resume awareness falling towards a crater below. You are surrounded by others streaking downward as well, and below, screams of pain and terror can be heard as things you have no name for tear at those who’ve already landed while they a scramble to escape.

Designed to be a level 0 - 6 Shadowdark campaign for 4 to 6 players, The Plains of the Butchered Dead takes place in an afterlife  where the harm a soul caused in reality is reflected in the bodies of the soul after the old adage, "Hear no evil, Speak no evil, See no evil, Do no evil" Will you follow the path of Redemption and return to be reborn to reality a better person, linger here and make a life for yourself, or perhaps follow the rumors of a second way?

To play, you will need to have the Shadowdark core rule book, a few standard sets of dice, and this document.

This is an entry for the Weird Tales Shadowdark Game Jam inspired by the January 1924  cover. The ghost cowboy seeking to lasso the living one, and the story "The Man who  banished himself" by Ferdinand Berthoud in it inspired the idea of a harsh afterlife where the dead may seek redemption wounded by the harm they did while alive.
